There have been many, many excellent and groundbreaking attorneys throughout American history. Who are the “best” attorneys depends on the criteria for what defines “best”. Many people consider attorneys that are famous to be the best in their particular fields. The following are American attorneys that have made it onto Top Ten to Top 100 lists for being prominent in their field.
Barack Obama
Barack Hussein Obama II is an American attorney who became a politician and then became the first African American president of the United States. After completing an undergraduate degree at Columbia University he worked as a community organizer in Chicago.
He went on to Harvard Law School, where he was the first African-Americ president of the Harvard Law Review. He became a civil rights attorney and academic at the University of Chicago Law School. Nine months after he took office, Barack Obama was named the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize laureate. He is also known for signing many landmark bills into law.
Bill Clinton
Is an attorney turned politician who served as the 42nd president of the United States for two terms during the years 1993 to 2001. Clinton was born in Arkansas as William Jefferson Blythe III. His father was killed in an auto accident when William was only three months old and William formally took on his stepfather’s last name, Clinton, when he was 16 years old. It was at Yale Law School that he met HIllary Rodham, who became his wife in 1975. Prior to being president, he was the governor of Arkansas on two different occasions as well as the general of Arkansas. Clinton was known for his New Democrat ideology, and many say that his policies reflected a centrist “Third Way” political philosophy. Clinton is also known for being one of only three presidents to have been impeached (albeit he was not removed from office),
Ben Stein
Ben Stein was once most famous for being a speechwriter to U.S. presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford. He is now well known as an American lawyer, actor, comedian, political Commentator, and as an Emmy Award winning gameshow host.
Alexander Hamilton
Alexander Hamilton was a lawyer who is known as one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. He was also an American statesman, politician, legal scholar military commander, banker and economist. He was influential in interpreting and promoting the U.S. Constitution. He founded many notable institutions including the nation’s financial system, the Federalist Party, the U.S. Coast Guard and the New York Post newspaper. He was the first ever Secretary of the Treasury in the nascent United States and was the main author of the economic policies of George Washington’s administration. He also took the lead in establishing a national bank, a system of tariffs, and establishing friendly trade relations with Britain
